32 - The borders don't add well to this image. They feel too sharp and contrasted. Plus, one corner being so light makes them feel a bit uneven.
24 - The icon is too dark, and the light that tries to fix it only washes it out.
13 - The choice of text feels really plain, and the wording doesn't make much sense with the image.
15 - The crop makes it really hard to tell that the image is. It's a nice idea for color, but it doesn't translate very well into black and white.

Favorite Icon
25 - Great use of texture (or is that custom text? Either way, it looks nice.)
29 - Nice text placement, and the little leaf brush compliments it well.

Least Favorite Icons
#30 - The color balance is off, making Scully look much too washed out.
#25 - Text placement and color is hard to read.
#10 - Too contrasty, washing out Scully
#24 - Overly grey, not enough contrast.

Favorite Icon

Least Favorite Icons
#30 - The icon is way too sharp.
#7 - The image is too light and especially Scully looks over sharpened.
#13 - The icon could have used some contrast and the text placement is irritating with the way it's cut off. A different font might have been better as well.
#21 - The icon is over sharpened and the white block in the upper left corner looks out of place. The text makes the layout of the icon look a bit cluttered where it is.

Favorite Icon
#29 - Lovely cut and just the right amount of contrast.
#20 - The crop is brilliant, even though the image could have been a bit lighter.

Least Favorite Icons
33 - the leaf is a little bit hard to distinguish - i think the icon needs a bit more contrast and also a little bit of sharpening.
22 - the icon seems a bit cluttered, and the text really takes away from the icon itself. the picture is really hard to make out as well. less is more, i think.
30 - the icon seems a little bit too bright for the cap resolution. i suggest that you try and pic a more hires pic next time.
25 - i think that the idea of the icon is really good, but neither the text nor the photo seem to be the focal point of it. either make the text brighter or make the figure more prominant next time.

Favorite Icon
12 - i love love love the silhouette effect when it's used right - and this icon is spot on. the image placement is fantastic.
19 - i love the cropping on this one. it's not too obscure, which is great. there's just the right amount of contrast too - basically, it's very well done.

Absolutely - apologies.

Least Favorite Icons
#13 - The text overall is just too bulky and there doesn't seem to be a lot of depth to the picture.

#20 - The cut is unappealing and awkward. You see part of her face, half of her lips and there's a feeling of it missing something - like the rest of her face, or even just the rest of her lips. Also because of this there is no clear emotion/feeling conveyed. It just looks like a sliced image turned black and white with no point.

#23 - This icon overall is plain due to the unbalanced ratio of negative and positive space. Also, due to the white background the icon appears to be plain and boring. There's very little to it over than a cut tree and words and the text in itself due to it's design is unappealing with such a blank design.

#29 - The trees appear to be blurred, possibly due to not sharpening it after resizing. Also with the chosen text it has an almost mechanical feel to it. Everything is straight and flat leaving the icon to be boring in nature.

:) Hope that helps.

#39 - while the cropping is lovely, the way the black and white was created (for lack of a better word), makes scully's face look awfully washed out.
#20 - the icon is just a little bit too dark, making it hard to see her face.
#2 - the image is a bit dark, and the text is hard to read.
#22 - i'm uh... just not sure what's going on in the image.

Favorite Icon
#21 - i love the texture use, it's really pretty.
#13 - the icon itself is really pretty, and the text really adds to it.

Least Favorite Icons
#20 - The icon has no contrast at all; it's more gray than black and white. The close crop, while a good choice for the cap, only draws more attention to this and leaves me uninterested.
#23 - The lack of background in this icon feels strange. I can tell that the subject is a tree, but with all the negative space, it looks like it's just sprouting up out of thin air — it's distracting.
#26 - The close crop doesn't seem like it's working for this icon. The negative space between Belle and the Beast is directly in the center of the icon, drawing me more to that spot than to them.
#30 - The icon is distorted and over-contrasted.

Favorite Icon
#7 - The icon is very soft and pretty and I like how the negative space draws attention to the subjects, as well as how you used just enough contrast to set them off from the rest of the icon.
#32 - The somewhat distant crop and use of light really give this icon interest. The rounded corners are a nice touch, too.
28th-Feb-2009 09:08 pm (UTC)
Least Favorite Icons
#13 - The font doesn't fit the feeling of the image and the cropped text could look better if more of "r" in "your" would be visible.
#18 - The texture makes the icon look grainy in unatractive way. Also if the text's colour was more gray (darker) it might work better.
#26 - The crop of the original image makes the aspect ratio look off and the crop doesn't work the way it was possibly intended.
#30 - Though the crop and mirroring of the image is interesting the contrast is too dull but still too dark making the icon look grainy.

Favorite Icon
#9 - The crop and blending work well with the placement of the tiny text.
#29 - The icon is clear but not pixelated and the placement of the leaf and tiny text balance the icon well.
28th-Feb-2009 10:21 pm (UTC)
Least Favorite Icons
#20 - the image is a nice crop but it's really dark. I think some lightening or highlights would have given it more impact.
#13 - The text (while I like it off center) takes away from the image. Maybe something a little less simplistic would have worked better for a text style.
#24 - Nice crop, image too dark. Some lightening (or a bit more) would have been nice, or just a little more contrast.
#14 - the double image doesn't quite work. The second image gets lost until your really start to look at it - maybe some sort of highlighting it would have helped.

Favorite Icon
#22 - Love the rounded edges and the silhouette of the image. It really works well all together, as does the background of the image.
#18 - love the simplicity of it. The crop is great and the text perfectly placed on the image. All works as a whole.
28th-Feb-2009 11:15 pm (UTC)
Least Favorite Icons
#30 - The image quality is really bad and Scully's face is too bright
#25 - The cropping is good but the texture and the text hide Belle too much. The text is barely readable.
#22 - The texture used made the icon so bright I don't even recognize the subject. The font use seems to be old.
#21 - The contrast on the icon is too high. The picture seems too sharped.

Favorite Icon
#04 - The composition of the icon is really original and the b&w choices are really good
#16 - The contrast/bright balance is really well done. The picture seems so nice! And the cropping is really interresting

yeah, i use spreadsheets for all my tallying.
it's just after adding everything up going through to make sure all the reasons match up to their respective icons, and there isn't any funny business, and of course to verify clear and objective reasons. 96 negative reasons are a lot to go through o_o

i'm still waiting on 9 or 10 people, but there's still plenty of time to get votes in. Fingers crossed everyone gets their votes in.

#2 - the contrast is to high, it's hard to make out what the image is supposed to be.
#13 - the text adds nothings to the icon in the way it's positioned since you can't properly read what the words are.
#22 - overall the icon looks overdone. the picture doesn't blend in well with the texture and the image itself is overly bright
#32 - the white blob washes out the image so much so that you can't really focus on the main image.

Favorite Icon
#14 - original use of blending. it draws you in so that you look at the icon to see what's going on.
#16 - beautiful crop and great use of background space.

Least Favorite Icons
#30 - icon is too blurry and pixilated.
#13 - the crop is very nice but the text being cut off like that takes the icon down.
#22 - there is too much going on. too many shapes and backgrounds draws focus away from the icon.
#21 - can't read all of the text and it kind of overpowers the icon.

Favorite Icon
#16 - the crop is great on this icon.
#7 - like the crop on this icon. they are the focal point but there is still enough space around them to make it not feel cramped.

Least Favorite Icons
30 – The icon is overall too grainy.
33 – Poor contrasting, giving the icon a grainy look, though I know it’s not grainy. The sparkles on the leaf and the contrast do not mix well.
25 – The text after ‘alone’ is too much, it detracts from the picture of the icon. It’s also very hard to read.
13 – The font doesn’t work with the icon as a whole. It just bogs it down.

Favorite Icon
3 – I’m very fond of it’s simplicity and it’s different from the rest of the batch. This person went out on a limb and I think they did very well.
6 – It’s beautiful, perfect cropping and contrast.

#16 - great cropping and contrast, very clean. love it.
#12 - the effect used is very beautiful, i like the softness of the icon.

Least Favorite Icons
#26 - Aspect ratio is off, making the characters look rather squished. The negative space between them is a bit too dark.
15 - Good contrast, but the cropping is a bit too severe - we lose what the actual subject of the icon is. It's unclear that it's a pair of leaves.
#30 - Too sharp, too much contrast. There's very little gray - just blobs of black and white.
#20 - A touch too dark and not enough differentiation between the dark spots and the light.

Favorite Icon
#04 - Great use of negative space. The softness of the bottom is just lovely.
#27 - Excellent use of textures and text. Good coloring and cropping, as well.

#20 - the image is very dark and hard to see. The quality doesn't look that great, either, the crop is too close for the quality of the image.
#22 - Belle and the Beast are hard to see and are shoved to the side, taking the focus off them.
#24 - the image is very dark and hard to see.
#30 - the image quality isn't high enough for this much of a close-up crop. Scully is very pixelated and by flipping the image, her face looks awkward.

#32 - sooo pretty!
